Helen Russell

Group Client Director

Helen has worked at Brand Learning for over 5 years, across a number of clients in various sectors (FMCG, retailers, pharma and consumer healthcare and industrial) and spanning both B2B and B2C. She is passionate about building capability, in particular through developing compelling stories and creating pragmatic solutions.

Prior to joining Brand Learning, Helen worked as a Commercial Leader (Marketing and Sales) for over 14 years in FMCG sector, predominantly Procter & Gamble. She focused mainly on Health & Beauty - covering many different categories -  spanning from Consumer Healthcare to the Professional Salon business and in a mix of UK and Regional roles.

She left University with a PhD in Chemistry, but immediately decided to change direction and started her marketing career at Smith & Nephew on Simple Skincare, then joined Clairol on Nice ‘n Easy hair colour, before the business was acquired by Procter & Gamble.

Over the next 12 years, Helen had a variety of assignments at P&G – including spending over 5 years in the Consumer Healthcare division – first in the UK where she was involved in the re-positioning of Vicks from illness to wellness (including the launch of First Defence) as well as launching ThermaCare heat wraps (now owned by Pfizer). Then she moved to the European team to lead the Gastro-Intestinal portfolio (Metamucil, Pepto-Bismol, Fibresure), working on insight generation, concept development and innovation.

Helen returned to the UK to lead the Wella Professionals (B2B) business and build the capability of the acquired marketing team, ahead of integration with P&G. It was here she uncovered her passion for capability work. Helen’s last client side role  was Commercial Leader for UK Fragrances (Hugo Boss, Lacoste) leading the multi-functional team and working collaboratively with the global team and Fashion Houses to drive growth.

Helen lives with her partner, Doug, and daughter, Emily and outside of work family time is usually determined by Emily’s social calendar – consisting of playdates, parties, swimming and ballet. In her free time Helen enjoys gardening, reading and planning family holidays and trips. She is currently learning Spanish and boxing
