The celebrations centred on the huge contribution Marketing has made to business in the past 50 years and the Marketing Society network, the most influential network of senior marketers dedicated to championing marketing in the UK, have selected the 50 brands that shone most brightly in each of the last 50 years.

Professional marketers across the UK voted for the Marketing Heroes of the last half a century and Brand Learning sponsored the ‘Brand Builder’ category of the Marketing Heroes awards. This award reflects our dedication to building marketing excellence through supporting individuals and organisations in strengthening their marketing capabilities and realising the potential of their people.

The winner was Sir Terry Leahy, CEO of Tesco, who was voted unanimously as the greatest 'Brand Builder' her of the last 50 years. Hugh Burkitt, chief executive of the Marketing Society said: "By the brilliance of his understanding of customers and knowing how to make every bit of the marketing mix work a little bit harder, he has made his brand not just the number one retailer in the UK, but number two in profit in the whole world."
