People have been saying this for years – but 2010 really is going to be the tipping point for Mobile Marketing. The rapid acceleration in the uptake of Smart phones, largely fuelled by iPhone, has made the difference.
But for anyone who thinks that Mobile marketing means obtrusive and uninvited text messages, think again.
The combination of the ‘Personal’ element of the mobile phone combined with the ‘Contextual’ element – knowing where an individual is at any given time, and what else is in their local area - opens up the possibility of truly relevant (and therefore welcome and effective) marketing activites.
Learn and be inspired by the hugely successful ‘Orange Wednesday’ campaign – well ahead of its time – that linked cinema ticket promotion to information/incentives for local restaurants, bars and other entertainment events that were of direct relevance.
So make sure your eyes are open to the possibilities. Get yourself up to speed with latest thinking, put some budget in for Mobile Marketing and get going.
