This critical capability development area covers the Marketing Leadership skills needed by new and aspiring Marketing VPs and Directors. In addition to the The Marketing Society Marketing Leaders Programme developed together with BRAND LEARNING and led and facilitated by Brand Learning each year, we also provide tailored consultancy support for Marketing leaders internationally.

A major pharmaceutical company set the ambition to become a World Class Marketing organisation. Following a re-organisation they recognised that they would need to strengthen their Global Marketing Team’s Marketing Leadership Skills if they were to achieve this.

As part of an ongoing development of a Marketing Academy, Brand Learning had already completed a self diagnosis audit aimed at identifying the relative strengths and development areas within the Marketing Team. In addition, Brand Learning completed a number of Stakeholder interviews with the heads of key functions that worked with the Global Marketing teams.

The unanimous conclusion from the data and interviews was that while the Global Marketing team had started to recognise their role as leaders of Strategy, they needed more guidance on how to actually do the leading.

A programme for the 50 top Global Marketing Leaders was carefully developed based on three key principles:

  • Clear sponsorship and visible support for the programme from Senior Management
  • Highly relevant stimulus (external and internal opinion, concepts, tools, examples) to generate new perspectives and ideas
  • Highly experienced workshop facilitation to provoke and guide relevant thinking and debate
